Vivendi Universal is rather fucked

And while we're on the subject of the lovely people in the entertainment industry, media/sewage conglomerate Vivendi Universal is looking rather fucked these days. And Universal Music head thug and former CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. is probably kicking himself for letting it happen. Of course, given Bronfman's record as one of the most rabid hardliners in the War On Fair Use, I can't say I feel sorry for him.

(Though even if his corporate career is washed up, he could always take up songwriting again. It worked for another hard-nosed businessman.)

Oh, and you can find more schadenfreude here.

That's weird. I was about to compile a list of the world's ten scariest corporations, with Vivendi Universal somewhere amongst them. I'll have to reappraise. Heh.

I wouldn't write them off. The Universal Music Group is the only Big 5 recording company that made a profit lately, and looks likely to be around for a while (unless Vivendi bleeds it dry, Festival-style, of course). And they're not very nice people, even by recording racket standards.

Bronfman used to be a songwriter? I thought as a third generation Jewish gangster and extortionist, whiskey baron and head of the international Jewish terror organisation (otherwise known as the World Jewish Congress) he wouldn't have found time.
