Flying pigs: Is Microsoft planning to open-source its C# language, and the bytecode virtual machine behind it (which is intended as a universal bytecode)? Someone seems to think so. Though I'd be very skeptical of the licensing terms, given Microsoft's corporate culture...
The Internet piracy crime wave spreads; first it was the Napster kiddies swapping Britney Spears/Eminem singles, and the latest menace to our way of life is grandmothers swapping sewing patterns online:

An intrepid soul has hand-coded a Type 1 font, using only t1utils' assembler. It's a MICR font, as used on US bank cheques, and only has digits and some special chars. (I once tried hand-coding Type 1 fonts; though I didn't have the patience for it and ended up getting Fontographer (which I haven't touched in about a year).)
